It can be hard to make changes to a healthier diet, especially when it comes to your eating habits. There are people who go out and are able to change their diet immediately and maintain this for life, but for many people, gradually changing their diet tends to make lasting changes.  There are exceptions where people may need to change their diet immediately for health reasons, but for the average person, follow these simple tips to make permanent changes towards a happier, healthier body.

  • Set a goal of what your ideal diet would be. Write it down and then be willing to make adaptions depending on physical and mental needs.
  • Don’t be afraid to experiment. Different diets will invoke different changes in a person’s mind, body, and spirit.  Try different styles of eating and see how it makes you feel on all levels.
  • Make gradual changes. Small changes become easy habits. Give your body and mind time to adapt.
  • Educate yourself. If you understand why you are making the changes, it will keep you moving towards your ultimate diet.
  • Set motivational goals. First discover what motivates you, then implement the motivation. Whether it be to reduce weight for that new dress or running your first race, make sure you know your motivation.
  • Write a list of why you want to make these changes and read it daily, weekly, or as often as you need.
  • Plan ahead. If you have a good plan of what to eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack, etc. you are more likely to succeed than go off diet.
  • Love and accept yourself no matter what. Do not be ashamed if it takes you months or years to change a habit.
  • Forgive your mistakes. We are humans instead of punishing and being hard on yourself, remember that you are indeed human and you will mess up from time to time.  Forgive yourself and move on.
  • Allow yourself to enjoy. Enjoying life through food is NOT a sin, it is a beautiful experience, just make sure you are eating healthy at least MOST of the time.
  • Find a support group of people with similar goals.
  • Meet with a nutritionist. We would love to sit and talk with you about different ways and styles of eating to empower you and your body.

Remember that diets are personal.  They are something that change and adapt with time and age.  Follow these tips and make the changes that will benefit you and help you achieve your best mind, body, and spirit.
