It is exciting to know that warmer summer days are here. Everybody can use help managing the heat. Here are some of my favorite tips to help your body through the summer and enjoy a fun and healthy summer! 

Nutrition:
When the weather gets warmer we need to make sure we are staying cool. It is important to fight heat in the body with more alkaline, water-rich foods, and electrolyte rich foods.

Top Alkaline Foods:

Fruit:

  • Watermelon
  • Pears 
  • Cantaloupe
  • Berries – strawberries, blueberries and raspberries
  • Plumbs
  • Apples
  • Avocados

Vegetables:

  • Broccoli – make sure you cut and eat the stems too. They are loaded with nutrients. 
  • Cucumber 
  • Celery
  • Asparagus 
  • Beets
  • Spinach

Eat more salads for lunch and less heavy foods for dinner. Add a pinch of Himalayan sea salt to your food to help make up for sweating. 

Drinks:
Drink less hot drinks and drink beverages at room temperature to make sure you don’t disrupt your digestion. According to Ayurveda you should also avoid drinking ice cold drinks which can inhibit digestion.

Skin – Every 35 days
Cells that line your stomach – every 2 days since they are in contact with digestive acid.
Bones – 10 years

In order for the body to effectively replace those items your nutrition needs to be optimized. What you eat literally becomes you. You have a choice in what you are made of, so keep this in mind when you are making food choices.

Protect yourself and family from bugs especially if you are near water and doing any camping.

Swimming/Chlorine:
It is also very important if you are going to be swimming in pools to detox from the chlorine. Chlorine can make allergies and asthma worse. Vitamin C helps neutralize chlorine and undo the damage of chlorine exposure. Ionic Detox Footbaths can help release the toxins. I also recommend adding bentonite clay to the bath after being in the pool.
